Ready to wear wigs are mostly supplied in acrylic fibre. The very thought of 'acrylic' conjures up unnatural looking and artificial feeling material. However, nothing could be further from the truth. Acrylic fibre is now produced in such a way that it is super-fine, soft, silky and can retain its vibrant colours for a longer period of time (unlike real hair which tends to fade over the long term). There are also very advanced fibres available which have been scientifically tested to withstand extreme weather conditions. This type of fibre reacts to moisture just like natural hair - which means that you can go swimming in your wig or blow dry it as often as you like.
